A traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, wakes up one morning to find his body completely transformed to that of an insect. In this short story, the limits of human sympathy and empathy are tested, as his family does not know how to react to his new self, and are struggling without their breadwinner.
The Shining by Stephen King
During a harsh winter, Jack Nicholson and his family reside in Colorado's Overlook Hotel as caretakers. Jack is an author and hopes that this new setting will help him overcome his writing block, but as everyday passes, it is clear that there is something sinister brewing.
No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu
This semi-autobiography depicts intense human emotions. Oba Yozo is a normal person trying to do his best in the world. However, this is only a mask, and he is struggling deeply with his mental health and his real feelings of despair and loneliness.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Victor Frankenstein, a scientist obsessed with creating life, has finally debuted his greatest creation, rewrites and his biggest failure into the world. Dubbed a ‘monster’ by his father and abandoned to face a world that hates it for its appearance, Frankenstein’s Monster traverses the world hoping to find love and acceptance despite his grotesque appearance. This iconic story deals with loneliness, neglect, and prejudice, and is an excellent read for those interested in finding out the true story behind Frankenstein’s Monster.

Rebecca Gaudreau is in her sophomore year of college. Her favorite hobbies are reading, writing, listening to music, and playing games. Her favorite game is “Resident Evil 2” and her favorite show is “The Bear”. She plans on going into marketing and business as a future career.
