GEORGE M. JOHNSON

AUTHOR OF ALL BOYS AREN’T BLUE

Why did you become an author?

For years I told my story in pieces. I had finally gotten to a place where I knew it was important to tell the totality of my story. My story mirrors the story of thousands of Black queer folx who rarely if ever find themselves on the cover or inside the books they read. So I wanted to be a catalyst for change in that way for my community.

What are you reading right now?

I Don't Want to Die Poor by Michael Arceneaux and HOMIE by Danez Smith.

Have you ever been to the Bronx? If so, what's a favorite memory you have? If not, what do you know or think about the Bronx?

My favorite memory was going to the Bronx to see a billboard I was on for an HIV campaign that I participated in. It was really a great moment for to see it on Grand concourse.

What is a quote you live by?

If there is a book that you want to read and it hasn't been written yet, you must write it.
